Minnesota Swarm News Release
SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Minnesota Swarm General Manager Marty O'Neill today announced the National Lacrosse League (NLL) team has signed defenseman Kyle Ross to a contract. The team also announced today that it has placed Mark Miyashita on Injured Reserve after he suffered a torn ACL in Sunday's 11-9 win against Philadelphia.
Ross, 24 (5/12/83), was drafted by Minnesota in the fifth round (44th overall) of the 2004 NLL Entry Draft. The 6-foot-1, 187-pound defenseman has spent the past two seasons playing for the New Westminster Salmonbellies of the Western Lacrosse Association (WLA). Ross collected 13 points (3010=13) and led the team with 79 penalty minutes (PIM) in 18 games in 2006 and added five points (2-3=5) and 24 PIM in 10 postseason games. The New Westminster, British Columbia-native has recorded 27 points (7-20=27) and 108 PIM in 34 career games with the Salmonbellies. He has not appeared in an NLL game and will wear jersey number 20 with the Swarm.
Minnesota Wild players Josh Harding and Derek Boogaard will attend the Swarm game against the Toronto Rock on Friday, March 23 at 7:00 p.m. at Xcel Energy Center and sign autographs for fans from 6:00 to 6:45 p.m. to help "Fund the Fight" against breast cancer. Spots in the autograph line are limited and not guaranteed, so fans are urged to arrive by 6:00 p.m. A $5 donation to "Fund the Fight" will be requested from each autograph seeker. Fans can also donate to "Fund the Fight" by purchasing a special $10 ticket to the game. A portion of each ticket purchased will be donated to help fight the disease. This is a cause dear to Harding's heart, as his sister, Stephanie, has been recently diagnosed with breast cancer.
