Clearwater Threshers News Release

JUPITER, Fla. - Ramon Rosso and two relievers combined on a 6-0 shutout over the Jupiter Hammerheads on Monday night, as the Threshers extended their division lead to 4.5 games after the series-opening win at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.

With the victory, combined with Lakeland's postponed doubleheader vs. St. Lucie, the Threshers are now 4.5 games up in the Florida State League North. Clearwater has only six games remaining on the schedule, while Lakeland has eight games left.

A win on Tuesday in combination with two Lakeland losses would allow Clearwater to clinch the second half title in the FSL North.

The Threshers (41-22) (73-58) ignited the offense right away against Jupiter starter Josh Roeder (6-5), knocking four consecutive singles to open the ballgame. Henri Lartigue's liner to right field scored Daniel Brito with the night's first run.

An out later, Kyle Martin delivered a base hit to center to bring in Arquimedes Gamboa, and Raul Rivas put Clearwater up by four after adding a two-run single.

Clearwater tacked on an unearned run in the second. Brito opened the inning with a single to right, and Gamboa pulled a grounder through the right side. With Brito racing to third, the throw from right fielder Stone Garrett got loose allowing Brito to score and make it 5-0 Threshers.

Rosso (6-2) dealt six scoreless innings in the start, scattering six hits and a walk while racking up nine strikeouts.

The Threshers added a final run in the seventh, after Gamboa drew a one-out walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. With two outs, Lartigue laced a single to left to score Gamboa and push the lead to 6-0.

Grant Dyer worked around a walk and a single to keep Jupiter off the board in the seventh, then struck out the side in the eighth. Alberto Tirado added a scoreless ninth to finish off Clearwater's 14th shutout win of the season.

Game two of the four-game set will take place on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., with David Parkinson on the bump opposed by Jorge Guzman. The game will be broadcast live on threshersbaseball.com beginning at 6:15 p.m.
