Romine Provides Clutch Hit in Win

Akron, OH - Austin Romine connected with a two run single in the top of the 7th inning and the Thunder bullpen held on for a 4-3 win on Saturday afternoon over Akron. Craig Heyer (3-2) pitched six effective innings with five strikeouts and one walk to earn the win as the Thunder (15-14) improve to over .500 for the second time this season.

Trailing 3-1 in the 7th inning Yadil Mujica reached on an infield hit and Addision Maruszak worked a walk. Ray Kruml then reached on a base hit to center field to load the bases and Austin Krum drove in a run on a ground. Coban Joseph followed with a stikeout as Romine then delivered with the go-ahead base hit to center. Joseph was 0-4 on the day and had his hitting streak halted at 17 consecutive games.

Heyer picked up his third win and pitched around six hits and a walk. Heyer allowed two runs in the second inning on three hits and another on an RBI double from Tim Fedroff in the fifth. Josh Schmidt struck out four in two more scoreless innings and Fernando Hernandez colleted his fourth save of the year with a scoreless ninth. The win marks consecutive wins on the road for the first time this season for the Thunder.

Trenton wraps up the three-game series on Sunday at 1:05 PM. Thunder LHP Kei Igawa will oppose Akron's Austin Adams from Canal Park. The action can be heard beginning with the SBLI Pre-Game Show at 12:50 pm on 91.3 WTSR-FM and on trentonthunder.com.
