Sea Dogs Crush The Rock Cats 15-7

Portland, Maine- After squandering a 7-2 lead to New Britain last night in the late innings, the Portland Sea Dogs struck back crushing the New Britain Rock Cats 15-7 Saturday afternoon at Hadlock Field before a crowd of 6,031.

The Sea Dogs scored a season high 15 runs and blasted four home runs as they improve to 10-16 on the season. All nine Portland starters reached base safely in the game and all but Mitch Dening scored at least one run. Chih-Hsien Chiang collected his first career multi home run game, smashing two home runs and four RBI. Ryan Lavarnway also added four RBI for the Sea Dogs giving him 17 on the season.

Portland chased New Britain starter Deolis Guerra (2-4) from the game after just 1.2 innings collecting 10 runs on eight hits taking a 10-2 lead after two innings of play.

Lavarnway launched his team leading fifth home run in the first; a three run shot over the Maine Monster to get the scoring started for Portland. Chiang followed with a two run blast as Portland scored five times in the first inning.

Portland continued the offensive assault in the second inning when Jon Hee smashed his first Double-A home run; a two run shot. Oscar Tejeda added a RBI double and Mitch Dening chipped-in with a two run single to give Portland a 10-2 lead.

Chiang smacked his second home run of the game; a two run blast into the U.S. Cellular Pavilion in the fourth extending the Portland lead to 12-3.

After New Britain closed the gap to 12-6 in the top of the fifth with home runs from Chris Hermann and Chris Parmelee, Portland responded with three runs of their own. Che-Hsuan Lin collected a RBI double and Lavarnway would drive-in his fourth run of the game with a RBI single; Hee would score as well when the left-fielder misplayed the ball.

Santo Luis (1-1) picked-up his first win of the year tossing 3.1 innings of relief of Brock Huntzinger holding the Rock Cats to one run on two hits.

The Sea Dogs conclude the brief three game homestand with a 1:00 PM game on Sunday. Alex Wilson (4-1, 4.13) looks for his team leading fifth win. He will be opposed by New Britain righty Bobby Lanigan (2-2, 3.62). The Sea Dogs will wear pink uniforms for Breast Cancer Awareness. Prior to the game the Sea Dogs will host the 11th annual Sea Dogs Mother's Day 5K Road Race with a capped field of 3,000 runners, making it the largest 5K in the State of Maine. The race kicks-off at 9:15 AM.
