Lucas Herbert's two-run homer in the seventh inning broke a 1-1 tie, and the Rome Braves took a 3-1 win over the Lexington Legends Friday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
Each team had only three hits in the game, and Rome starter Ricardo Sanchez recorded 11 strikeouts while allowing one hit through seven innings.
Rome scored a run in the top of the first inning. Leadoff hitter Ray-Patrick Didder struck out, but reached first safely on a wild pitch. Didder moved to second on an infield hit by Luke Dykstra and to third after a fly ball to center field by Austin Riley. He scored when Justin Ellison grounded into a force play at second base.
The Legends tied the game in the bottom of the first on a home run by Anderson Miller, and the score stayed at 1-1 until the top of the seventh. Carlos Castro drew a leadoff walk, and Herbert followed with a line drive into the bleachers in left field, his third home run of the year.
Grayson Jones allowed two Lexington hits in the eighth, but did not give up a run, and Josh Graham retired the side in order in the ninth with two strikeouts to pick up his second save.
After Herbert's home run, Sam Lewis relieved starter Gerson Garabito for Lexington and did not allow a baserunner in three innings.
Sanchez (4-6) got the win. Garabito (0-5) took the loss. He allowed three hits in six innings plus two batters, including Herbert, in the seventh. He walked four batters and struck out three.
The series is even at one win apiece and continues Saturday. Game time is 6:35 p.m.
