RiverDogs Blast Augusta, 10-0, with Eight Run Outburst

CHARLESTON, SC - The Charleston RiverDogs sent 13 men to the plate in the fifth and put up a season-high eight runs on seven hits to parade past the Augusta GreenJackets, 10-0, in front of 4,896 on Friday night at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

Jeff Hendrix went 3-for-5 while driving in three runs to lead the offensive charge from the leadoff spot. Right fielder Jhalan Jackson collected three hits while Charleston catcher Audie Afenir slugged his third home run in the largest margin of victory for the RiverDogs this season.

Leading 2-0 heading into the fifth, Hendrix flew out to center to lead off the inning before the RiverDogs offense awoke. Hoy Jun Park was hit by a pitch before first baseman Chris Gittens smoked a double to right to put up the first run of the inning. After Angel Aguilar struck out, the next eight RiverDogs batters would reach all with two outs. Jackson doubled to left to score Gittens and chase Augusta starter Domenic Mazza (2-1). Afenir crushed a fly ball to left field off of Connor Kaden out of the bullpen for his third of the season and make it 4-0. With the bases cleared, Alex Palma reached on an infield single hit to third and advanced to second on a throwing error by Dillon Dobson. Gosuke Katoh and Cesar Diaz each drew walks from the bottom two spots in the order before Hendrix cranked a single to left to score two more. Park followed suit with a two RBI single of his own to finish off the eight run frame, the most runs scored in a single inning by Charleston this season.

Charleston took a 1-0 lead in the first when Hendrix doubled to lead off the frame and scored on a two out single to left by Aguilar.

Hendrix doubled the lead to 2-0 with a run scoring single to right with two gone in the second. Alex Palma reached on the first of two throwing errors by Dobson to begin the inning to lead to the unearned run.

Nestor Cortes' (5-1) brilliant pitching performance was overshadowed. The southpaw logged his third consecutive scoreless outing to scatter seven hits across six innings of work while walking two and striking out four. Cortes has not allowed a run in his last 19 innings with the RiverDogs.
