Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - In game five of the series, Rome beat the Dash using a strong start to the game to win 7-1.

The Braves got to Winston-Salem starter Matthew Thompson early, scoring three runs in the first inning. Cody Milligan led off with a double before Vaughn Grissom walked and Justyn-Henry Malloy singled to load the bases. Thompson hit Landon Stephens with a pitch that scored Rome's first run and then Drew Campbell hit into a fielder's choice that plated another. Beau Phillip would hit into another fielder's choice that scored a run to cap off the three-run first inning.

In the second inning, Rome didn't stop scoring, this time off the power of singles by Milligan and Grissom, who would later make the score 5-0 after scoring off of a double by Malloy. In the fifth inning, they'd continue the reign of offense off of a Javier Valdes single that allowed Phillips to score. Then in the eighth, they'd add a seventh run onto their total on a Stephens double that scored Malloy.

Meanwhile, Rome's pitching was on point as through eight innings, the Braves starter, Dylan Dodd and reliever Justin Yeager struck out seven and held the Dash's offense to just five hits. However, in the ninth, the Dash would end the shutout by Rome with *Luis Mieses'* single that scored *Duke Ellis. However, the scoring stopped after that and Rome closer **Austin Smith forced a groundout to end the game to give Rome their fifth win of the series heading into the finale Sunday.
