Rodriguez Optioned to Salt Lake, Wipke Reassigned to Rancho

SALT LAKE CITY (June 18, 2008) - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announced today that the club has optioned infielder Sean Rodriguez to triple-A Salt Lake. To make room for Rodriguez on the 24-man roster, the Salt Lake Bees have reassigned catcher Flint Wipke to single-A Rancho Cucamonga.

Rodriguez, 22, appeared in 22 games for the Angels in 2008, hitting .185 with one double, one home run and three RBI. He made his major league debut on April 19, hitting .250 at the plate against the Seattle Mariners. Rodriguez hit .250 in 21 games with 12 RBI, six doubles and four home runs for Salt Lake in 2008. The Miami, Fla. native was originally selected by the Angels in the third round of the 2003 draft.

Wipke, 25, appeared in five games for the Bees in 2008, registering two walks and one stolen base. He has appeared in 16 games for the Quakes this season, hitting .321 with six doubles, two home runs and 10 RBI. The Louisiana, Mo. native was originally selected by the Angels in the 38th round of the 2005 draft.
