Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
Mark Redman pitched a gem to lead Colorado Springs past Salt Lake, 3-2, in a classic pitcher's dual Wednesday night, in front of 6,552 fans at Security Service Field.
Redman (3-2) had his second consecutive strong outing to lead the Sky Sox. The veteran lefty tied a Sky Sox season high by striking out nine batters during seven brilliant innings of two-run ball. Just as impressive, he didn't issue a walk.
Dustin Moseley (2-4) went pitch-for-pitch with Redman, allowing three runs in 6.2 innings of work. He threw just 81 pitches, but left with two outs in the seventh inning after allowing three consecutive singles, including Christian Colonel's tie-breaking RBI single that proved to be the difference in the game.
Jayson Nix gave the Sky Sox the slimmest of leads with a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth. The natural second baseman, playing third base while Clint Barmes is in town, also scored the go-ahead run off Colonel's single.
The Bees got on the board first with a two-out rally in the second inning started by Sean Rodriguez's single and capped off with Adam Morrissey's RBI double. Matt Brown also added an RBI single following Dee Brown's double in the sixth inning.
Playing the second game in the Colorado Springs leg of his rehabilitation stint, Troy Tulowitzki went 1-for-3 at the dish. He also stole a base, a good sign from a player rehabbing a torn tendon in his quadriceps.
Barmes finished the night 0-for-2 and was hit by a pitch- his Sky Sox record 47th hit by pitch in his career in Colorado Springs. The middle infielder played seven innings before giving way to Kenny Perez.
The Sky Sox and Bees continue their series Thursday night with a 7:05 PM start time at Security Service Field. Glendon Rusch (1-1, 3.85) will take the ball for the Sky Sox opposite Nick Green (4-3, 4.88).
