Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release

Coming off a 5-3 come-from-behind victory over West Virginia on Sunday, the Scrappers tried to stay in the win column on Monday against Auburn.

Mahoning Valley got on top early thanks to a solo home run from Connor Marabell, but ended up falling to the Doubledays 5-2 at Falcon Park on Monday night.

Randy Encarnacion followed with a solo shot of his own in the bottom of the third.

The Scrappers regained their lead in the top of the fourth on a Nate Winfrey sacrifice fly to score Jodd Carter.

Auburn added three in the bottom of the fourth. Encarnacion had already homered, but drilled a bases clearing double to right center to score Ian Sagdal, David Kerian, and Melvin Rodriguez. Carter was shaded much toward left center, with Connor Marabell more in right field.

Victor Robles scored on a Casey Shane wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth.

Shane (2-4) wasn't his electric self. Shane took his fourth loss of the season after giving up five runs on eight hits in five innings. Shane's eight hits matched a season high from August 2 against Tri-City. The five earned runs matched the total from that same outing.

Carter and Ka'ai Tom also had outfield assists in the bottom of the seventh. Carter's throw threw Victor Robles out at home, and Tom's throw got Max Schrock.

The Doubledays snapped a five-game losing streak, and both teams will enter Tuesday's game with a 27-33 record.

Jared Robinson will take the hill for the Scrappers against lefty Taylor Guilbeau. Robinson struck out five when he faced Auburn on July 17. Guilbeau gave up seven hits in five innings, but the Doubledays still came away with a 6-3 win.

First pitch is slated for 7:05.
