New York Boulders News Release

(Ramapo, NY) Jonathan Velasquez pitched seven strong innings and the Rockland offense exploded for 11 runs as the Boulders sweep the Capitales for the first time in franchise history 11-6.

Just as the last two nights, Quebec found the scoreboard first. The Capitales loaded the bases in the top of the third and put the first run on the board courtesy of a Jonathan Malo sacrifice fly.

But it was all Rockland after that. The Boulders erupted for five runs in the bottom of the fourth on RBI singles from Cole Kraft, Chris Valencia and Ryan Scoma to make the score 5-1. After Quebec added one in the sixth, Rockland pounded out another two runs in the seventh as Phillip Cuadrado continued his hot streak with an RBI single and scored as Ryan Mollica doubled on the very next at bat.

Quebec showed life in the top of the eighth when Josue Peley scored on a Robert Wagner single that made the tally 7-3. But the Boulders broke the game open with four runs in the bottom of the eighth courtesy of doubles by Keith Brachold and Matt Nandin.

As the rain poured down, the Capitales added three runs in the top of the ninth, but it would not be enough. Boulders starter Jonathan Velasquez finished seven and two thirds innings scattering three runs on six hits while striking out six in the win.

Rockland heads to New Jersey for a four-game away series at Yogi Berra stadium starting tomorrow at 11:05 AM. The Boulders return home on Sunday for a game against the Jackals at 5 P.M.
