Can-Am New Jersey Jackals

Fox Leads New Jersey To Series Victory Over Newark

July 10, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Jersey Jackals News Release

Led by the Can-Am's wins leader, the Jackals overcame an early deficit to defeat the Newark Bears 5-2 in the rubber game of the three-game set at Yogi Berra Stadium.

On a cool Tuesday night in Little Falls, right hander Steve Fox allowed two runs and struck out nine en route to his Can-Am-leading eighth win of the season. He went eight innings, his longest outing of the year.

The Jackals utilized a couple of key hits and Newark misplays to generate their four runs on the day. After a Burt Reynolds' solo shot in the top of the second gave the Bears the early edge, Gaetano Giunta scored from third when Chris Curran was caught stealing second.

The go-ahead run in the bottom of the fourth came courtesy of a Carlos Guzman (1-4) RBI ground out.

Angel Berroa put the Jackals up 4-2 when his second double of the day in the seventh scored Bryan Sabatella (1-4) who tripled earlier in the frame.

Chris Henderson (1-4) got in on the fun when his bloop single scored Guzman in the eighth to give the Jackals the 5-2 lead.

After only collecting three outs last start against the Jackals, Newark starter Pedro Rivera allowed four runs - three earned on ten hits. He threw eight complete innings, his longest outing of the season. However, he drops to 1-7 in 2012.

In addition to the home run by Reynolds, Juan Martinez hit a RBI single in the top of the sixth in support of the Bears.

The Jackals turn things around quickly with an 11 a.m. match-up at home with the Rockland Boulders tomorrow. Lefty Jon Kibler (4-4, 5.92) is scheduled to start for New Jersey. The pregame show begins 10:50.

The New Jersey Jackals, proud members of the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, play their home games at Yogi Berra Stadium located on the campus of Montclair State University in Little Falls, NJ. 2012 single-game tickets, season tickets, mini-plans and group outings are available by calling 973-746-7434.
