Worcester Tornadoes News Release
Scott Hodsdon and Freddy Flores combined for 14.1 innings in their respective starts, limiting the Worcester Tornadoes to three total runs in 5-2 and 4-1 losses on Tuesday at Cohen Stadium in El Paso. Marcel Prado earned saves in both games.
J.J. Muse had five hits for the El Paso Diablos over the two games, with a pair of doubles and a triple. He knocked in a pair of runs with his final extra base hit in game two, which gave the home team its advantage for good. The single, double and triple in game one for the short stop was the fourth time on the Tornadoes' Texas road trip that an opposing player fell one hit short of the cycle.
In game one, Hodsdon topped Ryan Bicondoa, who got the nod for Worcester. The winning pitcher totaled 7.1 frames, allowing two runs on 10 hits, while striking out five batters and walking none. Bicondoa got the loss in a complete game effort, giving up five runs (four earned) with nine hits, four walks, and three k's.
The Diablos scored all but one of their runs in the first contest in the first inning. Maikol Gonzalez, Reid Fronk, Mitch Einertson and Wellington Dotel reached and came around to score. Daniel Nelson had a two-RBI single to make it 4-0 El Paso.
Einertson singled to lead off the El Paso fifth and came in to score on a groundout by Nelson.
Worcester added two runs in its half of the eighth inning on four consecutive singles. Brendon Kelliher and Brandon Pinckney each had RBI base knocks, but that was all the visitors could muster in the first game. Tim Adleman induced a 4-3 double play with Nick Salotti up to end the threat. The Worcester first baseman was the only batter Adleman faced.
Prado picked up save number seven on the season (and one on the day) with a one-hit, one-walk ninth inning, striking out two Tornadoes hitters.

In the second game, El Paso struck first again. Jonathan Cisneros scored on an RBI double by Fronk in the bottom of the third.
Half an inning later, Johnny Welch-- who doubled-- came in to score on Alex Nunez' single to tie the game.
El Paso immediately answered with three more runs to conclude the night's scoring. Cisneros ha an RBI single before Muse's biggest hit (the two-run double).
Freddy Flores went six-plus innings, allowing 10 hits and one run, without issuing a walk. He k'd two Worcester hitters.
Prado came on to shut the door again, as the first throw from him to Jerod Edmondson was a screaming liner right back to the pitcher. He pinned the ball to his body, then tossed it to second base to double off Chris Torres. After allowing a single to Ryan Brockett, he induced another liner that ended the Tornadoes' road portion of their interleague season off of the bat of Pinckney.
Dan Sausville dropped to (3-6) with the loss, but he did pick up his second complete game along the way. The Worcester hurler worked six innings in a game shortened to seven innings because of the resumed game. He struck out six batters, walked one, and gave up four runs (all earned) on seven hits.
The Tornadoes have Wednesday off, and will be back home for a week starting Thursday. They'll take on the Gary South Shore RailCats in their second of three home series against American Association teams. Tornadoes Pre-Game Live on USTREAM.tv begins at 6:50pm.
