RockHounds Win in the Nick (Allen) of Time

May 22, 2021 - Texas League (TL)
Midland RockHounds News Release

Nick Allen's home run Saturday night was his first at the Double-A level ... and it was a game-winner.

The RockHounds' second baseman lifted a solo drive to left-center field in the top of the eighth, breaking a 1-1 tie as the RockHounds defeated the Sod Poodles, 2-1, Saturday night in Amarillo.

Brady Feigl and relievers Brett Graves (win), Aaron Brown (hold) and Eric Mariñez (save) combined to allow just five hits as the RockHounds won their third straight game at HODGETOWN.

Jarett Rindfleisch put Amarillo on the board with a solo home run in the third but that was all Feigl & Co. would allow for the night.

Logan Davidson walked to lead off the RockHounds fourth and Jonah Bride brought him home with a double down the right field line (see "Kibbles & Bits," below).

After dropping the first two games of the series, the 'Hounds have won three straight to guarantee at least a split of the road series and have the opportunity to win the series outright when the clubs wrap up the six-gamer Sunday afternoon (1:05).

Kibbles & Bits

Through the first five games of the six-game series, Nick Allen has collected just three hits, but two of them have been game-winners. His three-run double in the fifth inning Friday would prove to be the difference in a 5-3 win and his solo home in the eighth on Saturday broke the 1-1 tie.

Nick and Tyler Ramirez are tied for sixth in the Double-A Central, each with 12 RBI. Jonah Bride's key double Saturday produced his 11th ribbie (tied for ninth in the league).

The strikeout barrage continued Saturday as pitching staffs combined for 26 K's. Through five games the teams have combined for 116 whiffs, an average of 23 per game.
