Amarillo Sod Poodles News Release
AMARILLO, Texas - Jarett Rindfleisch continued to show his power Saturday night with his third home run in four days in the Sod Poodles 2-1 loss to Midland at HODGETOWN in front of a sellout crowd of 6,412. The loss drops Amarillo to a record of 9-8 while improving Midland to 9-8.
On a gusty night in downtown Amarillo, the RockHounds started the swinging from the first pitch when Jhonny Santos led the game off with a double before Soddies starter and No. 12 prospect Tommy Henry ended the immediate threat with a flyout and two strikeouts.
In the third, Kyle McCann followed the same suit as the first inning with a leadoff double of his own. With one out, Santos knocked his second hit of the night, a single to left, but a speedy Stone Garrett mixed with a perfect throw to the plate made for a just-in-time play at the plate to get McCann at home to keep the game scoreless before Henry struck out Nick Allen to retire the side.
With the momentum on Amarillo's side, Sod Poodles' first baseman Rindfleisch made it a 1-0 contest with his 454-foot long-ball to left-center field, marking his third home run of 2021 and third in four games.
Midland evened things up at 1-1 in the top of the fourth courtesy of Jonah Bride's one-out double to plate Logan Davidson who led the inning off with a walk.
Henry capped off his career performance in the fifth inning with a final two strikeouts, exiting the game without a decision and setting a new career-high in strikeouts in a start at nine.
From the bottom of the fifth through the seventh inning, the game only saw a combined two hits until the eighth when RockHounds' Nick Allen hit the difference-making solo, two-out home run to put Midland atop 2-1.
The Soddies were quieted by Midland arms after the fifth, only collecting two hits and going down in order in the ninth.
The Amarillo bullpen was extremely efficient minus one mistake pitch. Relief arms Brandyn Sittinger, Mitchell Osnowitz (L, 0-1) and Mack Lemieux combined for four innings of one-hit, one-run ball with six strikeouts.
The final game of this six-game series with Midland is tomorrow afternoon at HODGETOWN with first pitch scheduled for 1:05 PM. Following the afternoon matchup, the Sod Poodles will hit the road for two weeks in Corpus Christi and Frisco.
