
Rockets Slip Past T-Birds

KENT - The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-1 Friday night at accesso ShoWare Center.
The T-Birds play the Everett Silvertips on Saturday at 6:05pm at accesso ShoWare Center. This is first game at home this season against the Silvertips. The T-Birds will be wearing special Veterans Day themed jerseys that will be auctioned off during the game to benefit Outreach And Research Services (OARS), a group that provides female military veterans the support and resources needed when reentering civilian life.
After the game is the Fred Meyer Turkey Shoot where every woman in attendance can win a free turkey from Fred Meyer by making a shot on net from the blue line.
Kelowna (8-10-0-0) went in front 1-0 on a four-on-three power-play goal by Kyle Topping at 10:44 of the first period. Lassi Thomson and Liam Kindree had the assists.
The Rockets outshot the T-Birds 13-11 in the first period.
The Rockets extended the lead to 2-0 at 3:10 of the second period on a goal by Libor Zabransky. Michael Farren and Ted Brennan had the assists.
Kelowna took a 3-0 lead on a goal by Nolan Foote at 4:57 of the second. Topping and Lassi Thomson were credited with the assists.
Seattle (7-7-2-0) cut the Rockets lead to two at 15:03 of the second period. Loeden Schaufler carried the puck along the blue from left to right. Schaufler took a wrist shot with Zack Andrusiak in low slot. Andrusiak tipped the puck past Kelowna goalie Roman Basran for his seventh goal of the season.
The assist by Schaufler was his first point as a T-Bird.
The Rockets had a 10-9 advantage in shots in the second period and 23-20 lead in shots going into the second intermission.
The T-Birds had two late power plays, including a six-on-four advantage to end the game, but were not able to score on Basran.
Both teams finished with 33 shots.
Hughes stopped 30 of 33 shots and his record is now 7-5-1-0.
Basran had 32 saves on 33 shots and his record is now 4-8-0-0.

The T-Birds are now taking orders for Flex-24 Ticket packages. Fans that purchase the 24-Flex Ticket Package will be able to select any available premium seat for any game, in any ticket combination, during the 2018-19 season.
