Green Bay Rockers News Release
Ashwaubenon, Wis. - The Green Bay Rockers fell to the Madison Mallards 11-1 Sunday afternoon at Capital Credit Union Park in the first matchup between the two teams this season.
The Rockers drop to 1-6 on the season and have now lost their last six games, while Madison improves to 4-3, winning their second straight game after defeating the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders on Saturday.
The Mallards struck first in the top of the first inning, scoring on a wild pitch as they led 1-0 after the first inning following the Rockers offense going 1-2-3 in the bottom of the first.
After a scoreless second inning for both sides, the Mallards tacked on another run following a solo home run by Josh Caron, giving the Mallards a 2-0 lead through the first three innings of play.
The Mallards added their third run of the game following a bases loaded walk, but a groundout stranded the bases loaded, as the Rockers offense searched for their first runs of the game in the fourth.
Despite a one out single from Griffin Stevens, the Rockers came up empty in the fourth, as Kyle Stoddard came on in relief for Chris Spry, who pitched the first 3.2 innings.
The Rockers got their first run of the game following a single by David Melfi, cutting the deficit to two at 3-1 heading into the sixth inning.
The Mallards took control right back in the sixth following an RBI double by Jan Rollen and another run reaching home off a throwing error, as Madison took their largest lead of the game at 5-1 going into the bottom half of the sixth.
Following a 1-2-3 bottom of the sixth, the Mallards tacked on two more following a two-out RBI single by Ryan Taylor, extending their lead to 7-1 through six and a half innings of play.
In the eighth, the Mallards plated three more runs across to stretch their lead to 10-1 through eight innings, taking their largest lead of the afternoon.
A solo home run for the Mallards in the ninth capped off the scoring at 11-1, as the Rockers fell at home for the fourth time this season entering the second week of play.
The Rockers will take on the Mallards once again Monday, this time on the road at Warner Park. First pitch is set for 6:08 p.m.
