Chesapeake Baysox News Release

New Britain, CT - New Britain plated three decisive runs in the sixth inning en route to posting a 4-1 victory over the Baysox on Saturday night at New Britain Stadium. The loss snaps Bowie's recent three-game winning streak and puts them back at the .500 (40-40) mark through the season's first 80 games.

Saturday night belonged to pitchers, more specifically the New Britain staff; as the Rock Cats' pitching delivered an absolutely dominating performance, holding Bowie to a paltry total of only three hits.

Southpaw Errol Simonitsch (1-1) was responsible for a majority of the Baysox struggles, as he struck out six batters and allowed only one unearned run over six innings of work on the way to recording his first win of the season.

Nick McCurdy (1-4) took the loss for the Baysox, after being tagged for four hits and all three runs in the decisive sixth frame.

The Baysox lone run came in the fifth when Eugene Kingsale, who had reached first safely on a bunt single, came all the way around from first to score when New Britain's third baseman Felix Molina made an errant throw on a Brandon Marsters' groundball.

Things got off to a promising start in the sixth, as Simonitsch issued a leadoff walk to Joey Hammond. Unfortunately for the Baysox, Hammond would be the last Bowie player to reach base safely, as Simonitsch and the combination of relievers Kevin Cameron and Pat Neshek combined to retire the final 12 hitters in order to close out the contest.

Heading into Sunday afternoon's tilt, the Baysox are only 3.5 games behind the first-place Erie Seawolves

BAYSOX NOTES: Ryan Keefer held his own in his first start of the season, allowing only one run on three hits over four innings of work.

ON DECK: The Baysox will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as LHP Eric DuBose (5-8, 3.81) opposes RHP Jim Abbott (2-1, 6.13) in the rubber match of the three game set, beginning at 1:35 p.m.
