Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

The New York Mets announced today that righthanded pitcher Jeremy Hill has been called up to the Binghamton Mets from New York's High-A affiliate in St. Lucie, FL.

The 27-year-old Hill got into seven games out of the bullpen with the St. Lucie Mets this season, going 0-0 with a save and a 2.35 ERA, walking three and striking out five in 7 2/3 innings. When the 10th-year pro made his first appearance for St. Lucie on June 8th, it was the first time he'd taken the mound in nearly a year after undergoing reconstructive elbow (a.k.a. "Tommy John") surgery in 2004.

Hill spent all of last season with Binghamton, going 2-3 with 10 saves and a 2.23 ERA in 25 appearances before hurting his elbow June 17th at Akron. The Dallas, TX native was in his first full season in the Mets organization after coming over from the Kansas City Royals for lefthanded pitcher Graeme Lloyd on July 28th, 2003, getting into 11 games with the B-Mets at the end of 2003.

Originally drafted by the Royals in fifth round in 1996, Hill spent his first five seasons as a catcher before being converted into a relief pitcher in 2001, getting into 11 Major League games with Kansas City in 2002 and 2003.

Hill will be in uniform for tonight's B-Mets game at Akron, working out of the bullpen. To make room for Hill, catcher Zac Clements was placed on the St. Lucie roster, but will remain with Binghamton. Clements was hitting .234 with no home runs and two RBI in 22 games with the B-Mets.

Tonight, the Binghamton Mets will play the second game of a three-game series at Canal Park against the Akron Aeros. The B-Mets return home on Independence Day to start a four-game series with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Binghamton's last homestand before the Eastern League All-Star Break.
