Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

For the second straight night, the Binghamton Mets went up by three in the fifth but, once again, the Akron Aeros were able to come back and win, beating Binghamton 5-4 at Canal Park Saturday. Akron's taken the first two games of the three-game series.

The B-Mets (38-39) didn't get their first hit off Akron starter Rafael Perez until the third, when Wayne Lydon reached on a two-out error and Aarom Baldiris followed with his third homer of the year for a 2-0 advantage.

After Ben Francisco got Akron (42-38) on the board with a solo shot off spot-starter Bryan Edwards in the fourth, the B-Mets added to their lead thanks to more Aeros miscues in the fifth. Bobby Malek was hit by a Perez (1-0) pitch leading off and advanced to third on an errant pickoff throw by the hurler. Two batters later, Corey Ragsdale hit a ground ball that went under the glove of Akron third baseman Pat Osborn for an error, allowing Malek to score and Ragsdale to advance to second. After Lydon's groundout moved Ragsdale to third, Baldiris followed with a ground ball to the left side and was able to beat the throw by shortstop Ivan Ochoa, scoring Ragsdale for a 4-1 B-Mets lead.

However, Akron was able to go ahead for good in the sixth. After B-Mets reliever Rafael Lopez (2-4) got an Eider Torres flyout to start the inning, he walked Brad Snyder and Ryan Mulhern, followed by a Ben Francisco single, loading the bases. Pat Osborn then hit a groundball that B-Mets third baseman Jay Caligiuri had trouble getting out of his glove. Binghamton got the out at second, but just missed getting Osborn at first as Snyder scored, making it 4-2. After Shaun Larkin walked to reload the bases, former B-Met Javier Cardona lofted a fly ball that leftfielder Jeff Duncan lost in the lights, dropping in for a three-run double that put Akron on top. Akron lefty Chris Cooper pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his seventh save.

Sunday, the B-Mets wrap up their three-game series at Akron, sending Brian Bannister (9-2, 2.20) to the hill against Akron lefty Jeremy Sowers (0-1, 4.50). Game time is 2:05 from Canal Park with the Horizon's Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show kicking off the radio broadcast at 1:50 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
