New Britain, CT (7/15) - The Rock Cats broke out for 19 hits en route to a 13-4 win over New Hampshire in the first game of Saturday's Day-Night doubleheader. The Rock Cats, down 4-1 going into the fifth inning, clawed back with four runs in the fifth to take the lead. The Rock Cats went on to score two more runs in the sixth and six in the seventh. Denard Span (4-for-5, 2 R, 2 doubles, RBI single, RBI double) and Trent Oeltjen (4-for-5, 3 R, 2 triples, 5 RBI) led the way. Starter Kevin Slowey, who was slow getting to the mound at the start of the game, went onto to fire a complete game. He allowed a three-run homer to Adam Lind in the third inning. Slowey (2-2) finished with two hits, four runs, and five strikeouts. He retired the last 15 batters to end the game.
Doug Deeds continued his hot streak at the plate with two RBI doubles and a run. Steve Lomasney, Alexi Casilla, and Matt Tolbert all added two hits apiece. For the Fisher Cats, Danny Hill suffered the loss in relief. Hill (1-6) surrendered five runs on four hits in the fifth inning. Former Rock Cat Brian Wolfe struggled as he allowed seven earned runs and eight hits in one inning. He pitched in the seventh, but left the game after pitching to five batters without recording an out. The Rock Cats will go for their fourth-straight win tonight at 7:05. It will be Irish Heritage Night and the Rock Cats will wear green jerseys. Photo: Trent Oeltjen breaks out of the batter's box after laying down a bunt in the first inning. He reached base safely and went 4-for-5 with 5 RBI on the day.
