New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats of the Eastern League made two roster moves today, with each involving an Infielder.

INF Yangervis Solarte, the 22-year-old resident of Valencia, Venezuela, has been placed on the Disabled List with a knee injury. The promising 5'11'/175-pound Solarte joined New Britain in May of this year and proved to be a valuable addition. In 32 games in a Rock Cats uniform, he batted .276 with 9 Doubles, 3 HRs and 19 RBI. Signed by Minnesota as a Free Agent in 2005, Yangervis spent most of his time playing Third Base in New Britain where, in addition to his productive offense, he proved to be a very capable defender.

INF Yancarlos Ortiz, the 25-year-old native of San Cristobal, Dominican Republic, returns to New Britain from Rochester in the Triple-A, International League. The 5'9"/150-pound Ortiz appeared in 30 games for the 2010 Rock Cats prior to his promotion to Rochester earlier this month. The versatile Infielder batted .254 in a New Britain uniform while playing three different Infield positions. He appeared in 7 games for Rochester and hit .241, which included 1 Double, 1 Triple, 1 Home Run and 6 RBI.

Yancarlos was signed by Minnesota as a Free Agent in 2003.

Both moves are effective immediately and Ortiz will be in uniform tonight when the Rock Cats play in Binghamton, NY.
