HITTING IT OVER THE GWINNETT: The Rochester Red Wings today close out their 4-game series vs. Gwinnett (Braves) and 8-game homestand, which began with a 3-1 series win vs. Louisville (Reds). Rochester will take tomorrow off, the team's 2nd scheduled offday, and then start an 8-game roadtrip Thursday with the first of 4 at Gwinnett. The trip wraps up with 4 games at Charlotte (White Sox). The Red Wings return to Frontier Field June 1 for an 8-game homestand with Columbus (Indians) and Norfolk (Orioles).

a The Red Wings' game vs. Gwinnett today is being broadcast live on Time Warner Cable Sports and simulcast nationally on MLB Network.

BASEBALL MONTH IN ROCHESTER: The Red Wings and Monroe County have proclaimed May as "Baseball Month in Rochester." Frontier Field is hosting games on 26 of the 31 days in the month, as the Empire State Yankees share the downtown ballpark with the Red Wings. Today in Rochester for the Gwinnett-Red Wings game:

44 DOWN, 100 TO GO: One hundred games remain for the Red Wings in 2012. At 19-25, the Wings are one game better 44 games into the season than they were a year ago. Not only that, Rochester is 3 games better than the 2010 club at this point in the season. The Wings are off to their best start since the 2009 team went 22-22 through their first 44 contests.

a The Red Wings have 50 games remaining at Frontier Field.

WOW!: The Red Wings have won 3 of their last 4 and 5 of their last 7, a stretch that follows a 6-game losing streak May 9-14. Last night's 10-1 victory vs. Gwinnett marked the Red Wings' largest margin of victory since a 13-3 triumph vs. Pawtucket (Red Sox) in the first game of a July 5, 2011 doubleheader. Rochester last night established season highs with 10 runs, 18 hits, and 29 total bases. The Wings also homered twice in a game for the first time this season.

a The Red Wings are 10-11 in May and are within reach of their first winning calendar month since August 2009, when they went 17-15. Rochester would need to go 6-3 the rest of the way this month to accomplish the feat.

HOME ON THE RANGE: The Red Wings are 5-2 on the homestand with one game remaining, assuring themselves of their first winning homestand longer than 4 games since August 10-16, 2010, when they went 6-2 against Gwinnett (3-1) and Lehigh Valley (3-1).

RUNNING WILD: The Red Wings have scored 17 runs thus far in their 4-game series vs. Gwinnett, which entered the series with the 3rd-best ERA in the International League at 3.19. The Braves staff still ranks 3rd in the IL with a 3.33 ERA. Rochester's 17 runs are its most in a series since a 4-game set at Durham (Rays) August 8-11, 2011, when they scored 23.

A LITTLE SOMETHING EXTRA: The Red Wings last night tied a season high with 6 extra-base hits, matching their effort from Opening Day at Syracuse. Rochester has recorded at least one extra-base hit in 18 consecutive games, a stretch that started May 4 against the Empire State Yankees at Frontier Field. The day before vs. Empire State, the Wings banged out 9 hits, but all were singles.

a Rene Tosoni yesterday collected a career-high 5 hits, all singles, after entering the game with just 6 hits in 57 at-bats this year. It marked the Red Wings' first 5-hit game since Wilson Ramos accomplished the feat June 3, 2010 vs. Norfolk.

GOT THAT OUT OF OUR SYSTEM: The Red Wings allowed a season-high 11 runs May 12 at Syracuse, their 3rd straight game surrendering 7 or more runs. In 9 games since, the club has given up no more than 6 runs in a game (29 total) and an average of 3.2 per game. In fact, Rochester has given up 4 runs or less in 7 straight games and in 8 of their last 9 contests.

a Wings' starters are 4-2 with a 3.29 ERA (20 ER/54.2 IP) in that same 9-game span while relievers are 1-2 with a 1.71 ERA (5 ER/26.1 IP).
