Norfolk Tides News Release

The Pawtucket Red Sox plated two seventh inning runs to knock off the Tides 5-3 in a rain-shortened game Tuesday afternoon at Harbor Park.

With the score tied at 3-3, Jon Hee opened the seventh with a single off of Pat Neshek (2-1), and he moved to third on a double to right by Pedro Ciriaco. A grounder to short by Jose Iglesias plated Hee with the go-ahead run, and Ryan Lavarnway followed with a liner down the right field line to extend Pawtucket's lead to 5-3.

Norfolk had tied the contest in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by Miguel Tejada, his second hit of the game. Tejada, who also singled and walked in the contest, is now hitting .400 (4-for-10) in three games since joining Norfolk on May 20.

Mark Melancon worked a scoreless eighth for the Pawsox before heavy rains halted play before the beginning of the ninth. Melancon was credited with a save, his sixth of the season.

Tides starter Jason Berken tossed 5.2 innings, allowing three runs on six hits. Berken walked one and struck out a season-high six, throwing 63 of his 93 pitches for strikes. He entered the sixth inning having allowed a single run on three hits before being touched up for three hits with two outs in the frame, including a two-run homer by Alex Hassan.

After an off day Wednesday, Norfolk travels to Durham Thursday to start a four-game, home-and-home set with the Bulls. Miguel Gonzalez (1-1, 1.80) is slated to take the hill for the Tides against right-hander Shane Dyer (0-1, 7.20), with first pitch set for 7:05.
