Charlotte Knights News Release
(Durham, NC) - Terry Doyle tossed a complete game in his last outing. On Tuesday, he came three outs away from pitching another.
Doyle tossed a season-high eight innings and the Charlotte Knights ended their series with the Durham Bulls the way they started it - with a win. Charlotte belted out 11 hits, Doyle allowed just two runs in the longest start of the season by a Knights pitcher and the club beat the Bulls 5-2 in the finale of their four-game series from Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, NC on Tuesday.
Doyle (3-3, 3.46) allowed just four hits on the afternoon and helped the Knights split the four-game series with the Bulls. He walked one and struck-out five.
Tuesday's game marked the seventh time in eight starts this season that Doyle has gone at least six innings. In his last outing (May 17), Doyle tossed a seven-inning complete game (game one of a doubleheader against Norfolk). He's now won two consecutive games.
Offensively, Dallas McPherson, Josh Phegley, Justin Greene and Ray Olmedo each had two hits in the win. Olmedo went 2-4 to extend his season-high hit streak to five games. McPherson reached base for the tenth time in his last 11 games.
Charlotte (24-22) scored four of their five runs off of Durham starter Jim Paduch (2-2, 3.00), who was charged with the loss.
Reliever Brian Bruney struck-out two batters over a scoreless ninth inning to earn his seventh save of the season - matching his total with the Knights from 2011.
After an off day on Wednesday, the Knights will host the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Thursday, May 24. The two clubs will resume their suspended game from May 4 in Allentown, PA beginning at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday at Knights Stadium. That game will be played to nine innings, while the originally scheduled game (which will follow approximately 30 minutes after the final out of game one) will be a seven-inning game. Only one ticket (per person) is needed to gain entrance to Thursday's games. The suspended game will be picked up in the top of the fourth inning with two outs and a 3-3 score.
Single game tickets for all games on the upcoming eight-day homestand are available by phone at (704)-357-8071 (North Carolina), or (803)-548-8050 (South Carolina), online at www.charlotteknights.com, or in person at the Knights Ticket Office.
