GAME #115 - ROAD GAME #61 - 6:00 P.M.
ROCHESTER RED WINGS (58-56) at TOLEDO MUD HENS (44-71)
RHP ERIC HURLEY (0-0, 9.35) vs. RHP BROOKS BROWN (3-3, 5.05)
CHIM CHIM CHER-EE??: The Rochester Red Wings tonight conclude their 8-game roadtrip with the finale of a 4-game series at Toledo (Tigers). The roadtrip started with a 3-1 series win at Columbus (Indians) and wins in each of the first 3 games of this series. Rochester returns to Frontier Field tomorrow for a 6-game homestand, which includes a 4-game series against Empire State (Yankees) and a 2-game set against Pawtucket (Red Sox).
a The Red Wings tomorrow begin a stretch of playing 18 of their final 29 games at home.
PERSONNEL NEWS: Lefthander Pedro Hernandez, who was acquired by the Twins in the Francisco Liriano trade July 28, is scheduled to make his Red Wings' debut tomorrow vs. Empire State.
THIS IS FUN: The Red Wings have won a season-high 6 games in a row and are 2 games above .500 for the first time since being 5-3 after a 10-1 loss vs. Pawtucket on April 12. A victory tonight would make the Wings a season-high 3 games above the break-even point for the 2nd time. They were also 3 games above .500 at 5-2 after a 2-1 victory vs. Pawtucket on April 11.
a The Red Wings' 6-game winning streak is their longest since a 6-game run August 4-9, 2008. A victory tonight would give Rochester its longest winning streak since a 7-game tear June 19-23, 2007. That streak included a pair of doubleheader sweeps June 22 and 23 against Charlotte at Knights Stadium.
a The 6-game winning streak is the longest active winning streak in the International League.
a The Wings have also won a season-high 6 straight road games. It is Rochester's longest road winning streak since at least 2004.
CREAM OF THE CROP: The Red Wings are a league-best 21-11 beginning July 1. A look at the best records in the IL since the start of July:
Rank Team Record
1. 21-11
2. A0 19-13
3. Indianapolis (Pirates) 19-14
T4. Charlotte (White Sox) 17-14
Norfolk (Orioles) 17-14
a The Red Wings are 38-26 since sitting a season-worst 10 games below .500 at 20-30 on May 28. Going back further, Rochester is 44-33 beginning May 15 and 49-40 beginning May 3.
a Don't look now, but the Red Wings are just 4.5 games out of the IL North Division lead and the IL Wild Card spot.
WINNING WAYS: At 58-56, the Red Wings are off to their best 114-game start since 2007, when they were 62-52. The 2011 club was 24 games under .500 at 45-69 at this point last season and finished 53-91. The 2010 team was 34 games below .500 at 40-74 at this juncture and went on to finish only 49-95.
A FOR AUGUST: The Red Wings have started a calendar month 3-0 for the first time since June 2006, when they went 8-0. The Red Wings this year went 15-14 in June and 18-11 in July to post back-to-back winning calendar months for the first time since June and July 2007, when they went 16-15 and 18-13, respectively. Rochester last registered 3 or more consecutive winning months in 2006, when they had winning records in April, May, June, July, and August.
ROAD TO SUCCESS: The Red Wings are just 22-30 in true road games, but they have won 6 straight, 10 of their last 14, and 11 of their last 16 away from Frontier Field. Rochester has won just 4 road series all year, but 3 of the victories have come in their last 4 tries: at Norfolk July 16-19, Columbus July 28-31 and Toledo. They also took 3 of 4 at Louisville (Reds) June 14-17.
a Regardless of tonight's outcome, the Red Wings will post their winningest roadtrip since June 22-29, 2007, when they went 4-2 at Charlotte and 2-2 at Durham (Rays) to go a combined 6-4. (The 6-game series at Charlotte was due to a pair of rainouts earlier in the year in Rochester.)
HOME, HOME ON THE RANGE: The Red Wings tomorrow return to Frontier Field, where they are 36-26, a record that includes a 4-4 mark as the "road" team against Empire State. With 36 victories, the Wings have already eclipsed their win total at the downtown ballpark from last year. The 2011 Red Wings went 32-41 in 73 games, including one as the "road" team against Charlotte.
a The 36 home wins are Rochester's most since 2009, when they went 36-36 along Morrie Silver Way.
THIS IS AWESOME: Chris Parmelee enters tonight's game with a 14-game hitting streak, the longest of his pro career and the longest by a Red Wing since Matt Tolbert's 14-game tear over 2 stints with the club May 20-August 19, 2010. Parmelee is batting .448 (26-for-58) with 7 homers and 18 RBI during the streak. He has also hit safely in 18 of his last 19 games, batting .416 (32-for-77).
a A hit by Parmelee tonight would give him the longest hitting streak by a Red Wing since Danny Valencia's 20-gamer April 24-May 16, 2010.
a Parmelee has also recorded an RBI in 9 straight games (14 total), the longest such streak by a Red Wing since at least 2004.
a Parmelee yesterday hit his 11th home run to tie Matt Carson for the team lead despite playing in just 39 games with the Red Wings.
THIS DATE IN BASEBALL HISTORY: In 2001, the Indians tie a major league record by overcoming a 12-run deficit against the Mariners to win 15-14 in 11 innings at Jacobs Field. Cleveland, which trailed 12-0 and 14-2, scores 3 runs in the 7th inning, 4 in the 8th, and 5 in the 9th...Jolbert Cabrera's RBI single in the 11th won it...also in 2001, Twins great Kirby Puckett is inducted to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.
