Norfolk Tides News Release

The Tides were held to three hits as they dropped a 1-0 decision to the Columbus Clippers Sunday night at Harbor Park.

T.J. McFarland (5-5) and Frank Herrmann combined on the gem for the Clippers, as Columbus salvaged a split of the four-game set. McFarland worked eight-plus innings before Herrmann recorded the final three outs to register his seventh save of the season.

McFarland allowed faced just four batters over the minimum as he held the Tides to three hits. He retired eight Tides in a row from the first through fourth innings, then retired 13 straight hitters from the fourth through the eighth inning.

McFarland walked one and struck out five, throwing 59 of his 91 pitches for strikes.

Zach Clark (2-1) was impressive in a spot start for the Tides, as he yielded one unearned run on five hits in six innings of work. Clark walked three and struck out six before giving way to Pat Egan, who tossed three hitless innings of relief.

In three starts for Norfolk this year, Clark has now posted a 1.56 ERA.

The Clippers plated the only run of the contest in the fifth inning, as a Matt LaPorta sacrifice fly plated Cord Phelps with an unearned run.

Ryan Adams had two of Norfolk's three hits, while Xavier Avery added a ninth inning single.

Norfolk is now 4-6 over its last 10 games, with five of those losses coming by way of a shutout.

The Tides begin an eight-game road trip Monday as they travel to Gwinnett for a four-game series with the Braves. Dana Eveland (3-4, 3.13) is slated to take the hill for Norfolk against right-hander Randall Delgado (2-1, 4.32), with first pitch set for 7:05.
