SALT SHAKER: The Rochester Red Wings tonight open a 4-game series at Syracuse (Nationals), continuing their 8-game road trip that started in Pawtucket (Red Sox), where the Wings lost 3 of 4. Following 4 in The Salt City, the Wings return to Frontier Field for an 8-game homestand that features Louisville (Reds) and Gwinnett (Braves) from Tuesday to May 22.

a A pair of upcoming Red Wings games will be simulcast live on MLB Network to a national audience: Monday at Syracuse at 12:00 noon and May 22 vs. Gwinnett at 11:05 a.m.

BASEBALL MONTH IN ROCHESTER: The Red Wings and Monroe County have proclaimed May as "Baseball Month in Rochester." Frontier Field is hosting games on 25 of the 31 days in the month, as the Empire State Yankees use the downtown ballpark as a temporary home while PNC Field in Moosic, PA undergoes a season-long renovation. a Infielder Danny Valencia is expected to join the Red Wings tonight or tomorrow after being optioned from Minnesota Wednesday night.

FAR FROM PAWFECT: The Red Wings lost 3 of 4 games at Pawtucket to open their 8-game roadtrip. It was their first 4-game series loss since August 22-25, 2011, when they were swept at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Yankees). The Red Wings fell to 6-14 at McCoy Stadium since the start of the 2010 season.

a The Wings swept a 2-game series at Syracuse to open the 2012 season. Rochester needs 3 wins in 6 remaining games at Alliance Bank Stadium to secure their first winning record in a season here since 2009, when they went 5-3. The Wings return September 1-2.

OPENING DAY MAGIC RENEWED, BUT NOT ENOUGH: The Red Wings yesterday scored 6 runs, their highest offensive output since scoring 7 runs in a 7-4 victory Opening Day at Syracuse. The Wings had gone 31 consecutive games scoring 5 runs or less until yesterday. In the 7 contests they've scored at least 5 runs, the Wings are 5-2. They are 9-17 in their other 26 games.

a The Red Wings have scored an International League-low 99 runs, 21 fewer than the next closest team: Lehigh Valley (Phillies) with 119. The league leader is Pawtucket, which has plated 178 runs.

HOMER HAPPY: With Pedro Florimon's solo homer Tuesday, Joe Thurston's solo shot Wednesday, and Florimon's solo blast yesterday, the Red Wings have homered in a season-high 3 straight games for the 2nd time. Rochester also turned the trick April 8-10, when Rene Rivera, Brian Dozier, and Brian Dinkelman went deep on consecutive days. The Wings last homered in at least 4 straight games August 7-11, 2011, when they went 5 games in a row with a long ball.

a Rochester has yet to hit 2 home runs in a game. They last accomplished the feat on the final day of the 2011 regular season, September 5 at Pawtucket (Toby Gardenhire and Aaron Bates).

THE 'PEN IS MIGHTIER: The Wings bullpen has worked 11.0 consecutive innings without giving up an earned run over its last 4 games, a stretch that began in the 7th inning Monday at Pawtucket. (Wings relievers allowed 2 unearned runs yesterday.) In fact, Rochester relievers have surrendered only 3 earned runs in their last 27.2 innings beginning May 2 (8 games) for an 0.98 ERA in that time.

a Anthony Slama has worked 10.1 consecutive scoreless innings (9 games). Deolis Guerra, meanwhile, has tossed 9.0 straight scoreless innings in 4 games since joining the Red Wings April 28 from Double-A New Britain. Including 7.0 straight scoreless innings over his last 4 appearances with New Britain, Guerra has worked 16.0 consecutive scoreless innings overall, a stretch that started April 15. He hasn't given up a run since April 12 at New Hampshire (Blue Jays).

FRIENDLY CONFINES OF FRONTIER FIELD: The Red Wings have played the fewest home games in the International League with 14, yet are tied for playing the most games at home with Syracuse with 22.
