LAWRENCEVILLE, GA. - The Gwinnett Braves took both games of Friday night's doubleheader with Toledo at Coolray Field, beating the Mud Hens 3-2 in game one and 5-2 in game two. Luis Durango was the hero of the first game as he delivered a walk-off single to give right-hander Jair Jurrjens the win, while Christian Marrero and Joey Terdoslavich each drove in two runs to lead the sweep in game two.

A total of 7,372 fans witnessed the G-Braves sweep the twinbill, moving their International League South Division-leading record to 22-13.

Trailing 2-1 for most of the first game of the night, Gwinnett saved their best effort for the last at-bat. Drew Sutton led off the seventh inning with a single and Josh Wilson followed with a single of his own. After a J.C. Boscan walk to load the bases, Shawn McGill stepped to the plate in his first game of the 2012 season. The designated hitter smashed a sacrifice fly to right field to knot the game up, 2-2.

The table was set for Durango with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. The speedster slapped a base hit to right field that scored Wilson for the game-winning run, giving the G-Braves their second-consecutive walk-off win. Gwinnett had won the previous day against Buffalo on a 12th inning walk-off home run by Stefan Gartrell.

Jurrjens (W, 2-0) went the complete seven innings to pick up his second win with the G-Braves this season. He allowed two runs on eight hits, walked one and struck out two, throwing 106 pitches, 70 for strikes. It was the first complete-game effort for Jurrjens since throwing a nine-inning one-hit shutout against the Baltimore Orioles while with the Atlanta Braves on July 1, 2011.

Jurrjens' Toledo counterpart Adam Wilk (L, 2-2) was nearly as dominant. The southpaw went the distance as well for the complete game loss, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out one over 6.2 innings.

The second game of the doubleheader proved to be a more convincing win for Gwinnett, playing as the road team. The G-Braves scored twice in the top of the first inning and never trailed. Jose Constanza and Durango each reached base and scored as Ernesto Mejia grounded out to plate a run and Terdoslavich singled to boost the lead to 2-0.

The Mud Hens answered right back in their half of the first inning to cut the deficit in half when International League RBI leader Brad Eldred drove home Justin Henry with a two-out single. However, the G-Braves raised the lead to 3-1 in the third on a bases-loaded walk by Marrero that scored Durango.

Following another run by Toledo to cut their deficit to 3-2, Gwinnett responded with two more runs in the fifth to put the game out of reach. Gartrell smoked a single and later scored on another Terdoslavich RBI single. Mejia also walked and scored on a Marrero single.

Right-hander Anthony Varvaro made the spot-start for Gwinnett in game two, his first starting nod since August 15, 2008 with Seattle-affiliated High Desert of the Class-A Advanced California League. Varvaro allowed two runs on six hits and struck out three while walking one in a no-decision. Right-hander Erik Cordier (W, 1-1) earned his first victory of the season with 1.2 scoreless innings of relief. Right-hander Adam Russell and left-hander Dusty Hughes (S, 4) combined on 2.1 scoreless innings as well.

Toledo right-hander Brooks Brown (L, 1-1) took the game two loss with five runs, four earned over 4.1 innings.

The Gwinnett Braves (22-13) will look to keep momentum in their favor on Saturday as they take on the Toledo Mud Hens (20-15) in game three of the five-game series. First pitch at Coolray Field is scheduled for 7:05 PM. Right-hander Julio Teheran (2-1, 2.81) takes the mound for Gwinnett against Toledo left-hander Fu-Te Ni (2-0, 1.23). The game will air on WDUN 550 AM and 102.9 FM with Tony Schiavone calling the play-by-play.

The first 2,000 fans in attendance on Saturday will receive a Brian McCann Bobblehead courtesy of Gwinnett Medical Center. There will also be a Car Show at Coolray Field with festivities beginning at 3:30 PM and awards being handed out at 5:30 PM. Visit gwinnettbraves.com for a registration form and more details.
