Charlotte Knights News Release

(Fort Mill, SC) -- Hector Gimenez hit a big go-ahead home run in the bottom of the eighth inning - but he wasn't done on the night.

After Buffalo tied the game in the ninth, Gimenez hit a walk-off base hit to right field in the 10th inning to bring home Greg Golson and give the Knights a 3-2 win on Friday at Knights Stadium. The win for Charlotte was their third walk-off win in as many days. Golson had doubled off the left field wall to lead off the inning. All of the walk-off hits this week have been to right field.

Gimenez homered with two outs in the eighth to give Charlotte a 2-1 lead but it did not hold up. He was 3-for-5 on the night. Knights reliever Gregory Infante (2-0, 4.50) earned the win after allowing the tying run in the ninth inning on an RBI single to Josh Satin.

The White Sox' Jesse Crain made a one-inning Major League rehab start for the Knights and allowed no runs. He hit one batter and struck one out. In all, he threw 21 pitches, 14 for strikes, as he works his way back from a left oblique strain.

RHP Terry Doyle came on to pitch for the Knights after Crain's one inning and he was in a groove. He struck out 10 in 5.1 innings and had only given up two hits until the seventh inning.

The Knights (18-17) have now won 11 of 16 games at home this season.

Game two of the four-game series is set for Saturday night at 7:15 p.m. Dylan Axelrod (2-1, 1.08), back from his stint with the White Sox, is scheduled to take the mound for Charlotte against Chris Schwinden (2-2, 3.22) for the Bisons. Saturday night is the 7th annual Pink Knight at the ballpark with pink baseballs to the first 1,000 ladies presented by Charlotte Radiology. Fireworks will follow the game, thanks to WBT, Time Warner Cable and Carolina Weekly.
