Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING, Mich. - Tom Robson notched a career-high eight strikeouts as the Lansing Lugnuts (15-15) outlasted the Fort Wayne TinCaps (12-18), 4-2, on Monday night at Cooley Law School Stadium.
Robson (Win, 2-3) also matched a career-best with six innings pitched, allowing one run in the first inning before sitting down 17 consecutive TinCaps.
Third baseman Mitch Nay tied the team RBI lead with a sacrifice fly in the third inning off of Fort Wayne starter Payton Baskette (Loss, 0-1), and Carlos Ramirez put the Lugnuts ahead with an RBI single in the fourth.
With Lansing ahead 3-1, Fort Wayne close the gap in the seventh with an RBI single by Dane Phillips, but reliever Roberto Espinosa worked out of a two-on, one-out jam to limit the damage.
An RBI single by Lugnuts second baseman Justin Atkinson in the bottom of the seventh added an insurance run for Lansing.
Griffin Murphy (Save, 4) closed out the win for the Lugnuts with a pair of strikeouts in the ninth.
The Lugnuts and TinCaps return to Cooley Law School Stadium on Tuesday morning, with first pitch scheduled for 10:35 a.m. for a Grand Slam School Day. It will also be a Dollar Deal Day at the ballpark, with $1 hot dogs, fountain drinks and ice cream sandwiches all game long.
Lefty Shane Dawson (0-0, 16.20) will make his first start for Lansing, with righty Kyle Lloyd (1-1, 2.84) on the mound for Fort Wayne.
