PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs dropped a 1-0 game to the Beloit Snappers on Monday to open their three-game series. The loss is the Chiefs third in a row and their record falls to 17-12.

The only run of the game came in the fifth inning. Luis Baez led off with a single, advanced to second on a passed ball and then to third on a wild pitch. He scored when Sam Roberts singled just past the drawn-in Mason Katz at second base.

The Chiefs had a chance in the bottom half of the inning when Kenny Peoples-Walls hit a first-pitch single for their first hit. Jimmy Bosco grounded a three-ball, no-strike pitch to the first baseman, who stepped on the bag and fired to second for the reverse double-play. Peoria had another threat in the ninth. Juan Herrera had an infield single and moved to second on a groundout. Ronald Castillo was hit by a pitch but Peoples-Walls hit a deep foul-out in the corner in left field to end the game.

Alex Reyes struck out two batters in each of the first three innings. He faced more than four batters in only inning, the fifth, but that frame ended with a caught-stealing at second base on the first pitch to the fifth batter of that inning.

Reyes (2-1) pitched the first six innings, allowing one run on five hits with two walks and eight strikeouts. Jhonny Polanco pitched two perfect innings with four strikeouts. Zach Loraine tossed a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts.
