Wichita Thunder News Release

Wichita, KS - Wichita (24-27-6) got back into the win column on Friday night, skating past Tulsa (29-26-3) by the final score of 4-1 at INTRUST Bank Arena. Matt Robinson returned to the line-up for the first time since February 28th and recorded a pair while Matt Summers and Erick Lizon each found the back of the net. The Thunder improves to 4-5-1 against the Oilers in the StoneWolf Casino Cup Series with two more contests remaining this weekend against the two teams. Wichita breaks its five-game losing skid while the Oilers have lost its last three games.

The Thunder came out in the early going with a lot of jump and had plenty of scoring chances. At 10:57, Robinson scored his first of two when he took a Jon Booras feed through the slot and beat Shane Madolora to make it 1-0. Summers increased the lead to 2-0 when a missed shot cleared off the end wall and he re-directed it off Madolora into the net at 16:54 for his 11th of the season.

Wichita clamped down defensively in the first two periods, only allowing 12 shots through 40 minutes. After a scoreless second, Tulsa cut into the lead. Ryan Menei got to a loose puck at 3:47 with traffic in front of David Brown and slid it in to make it a 2-1 game. The Thunder answered quickly, however, as Nick McParland's wrist shot rang off the post, went right to Lizon, who pelted a backhand past Madolora for his fourth of the season and a two-goal advantage at 4:49.

Down the stretch, Tulsa would pull its goalie and get a chance with a face-off in the Thunder's offensive zone. Robinson blocked a shot and skated back up-ice, firing it into the empty-net for his 25th of the season at 19:23 and a 4-1 victory for Wichita.

Wichita breaks its brief two-game losing streak against Tulsa after losing both games in February. The Thunder has grabbed points in its last three games and sits four points shy of Arizona pending the outcome of the Sundogs game tonight against St. Charles. Robinson tallies his seventh multi-goal game of the season and 11th multi-point contest of the year. Booras has four assists in his last three games. Brown grabs his 16th win of the year, stopping 22 of 23 shots. Madolora suffers his 21st loss, stopping 31 of 34 shots.

Wichita was 0-for-3 on the power play. Tulsa went 0-for-2 on the man advantage.

Wichita hosts the Tulsa Oilers once against on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. The Thunder head to Tulsa on Sunday afternoon at 4:05 p.m.
