Berard Scores Again But Chill Burned in Arizona
March 14, 2014 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
St. Charles Chill News Release
Prescott Valley, Az. - Rookie Ryan Berard got the Chill started right out of the gate with his third goal in the last two games but the Sundogs would rally in the first period before taking the lead in the second and despite a great third period effort St. Charles would lose game one of a weekend series 4-1.
The Chill (11-41-6) jumped out to a lead just 3:44 into the first period when Ryan Berard stole the puck and fired it past Andrew Englage for his 11 th goal. The Chill defense held the lead for the next 10 minutes but the Sundogs (27-26-6) tied it a 1-1 on a goal from Shawn Limpright and the scored remained tied at the first intermission.
Arizona took the lead just over five minutes into the second period on the 30th goal from Kevin Baker and the teams skated to a stand-still the rest of the frame. Just 13 shots on goal we tallied by the two teams as a tight checking game set up for a good third period.
St. Charles was jumping out of the gate in the third period but could not crack the scoreboard before the Sundogs added to their lead just over seven minutes in with a power play goal from David Rutherford. The Chill kept the pressure coming throughout the period, outshoot Arizona 12-6, but Englage was up to the challenge again. Arizona added an empty netter in the final seconds to post a final of 4-1.
The Chill continues its visit against the Sundogs Saturday night with puck drop scheduled for 9:00 central time. You can catch the live action at Mr. Lucky's for the Away Game Watch Party. St. Charles is back at home the final weekend of the season March 28th and 29th with Pack The House Night and Fan Appreciation night that closes the inaugural season.
