Quad City Mallards News Release

DENVER, Colo. - Vincent Arseneau ripped off a hat trick and added an assist as the host Denver Cutthroats defeated the Quad City Mallards 6-3 Friday night. The win was the Cutthroats' (33-15-10, 76 points) seventh in a row and their second straight over the Mallards (28-20-8, 64 points), who dropped to sixth place with the loss.

Arseneau opened the scoring from the doorstep at 11:04 of the first period. Jean-Phillipp Chabot buried a rebound to double the lead at 15:40 of the first. A minute and 12 seconds late the Mallards were on the power play when Jeff Lee cut the gap to 2-1 by putting the puck into an open Denver net. Daniel Barczuk's shorthanded breakaway goal put the Cutthroats back in front by a pair with just 1:21 left in the first.

The Cutthroats grabbed a three-goal lead for the first time when Troy Schwab finished off a 2-on-1 rush at 3:42 of the second period. Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel's blast from the top of the left circle narrowed the margin to 4-2 just 36 seconds later, but the Cutthroats would pull away with a pair of Arseneau goals later in the second. Arseneau's point blank power play goal stretched the Denver advantage to 5-2 at the 11 minute mark. He tipped in his third at 18:16.

The Mallards' Justin Fox scored the only goal of the third period into an open net with just over two and a half minutes remaining, but by then the issue was no longer in doubt.
