
Roberto Bergersen Joins Idaho Stampede

BOISE, Idaho, January 15, 2009 - Your Idaho Stampede announce today that local fan favorite Roberto Bergersen is back in a Stampede uniform. Bergersen will play tonight when the Stampede take on the Albuquerque Thunderbirds at 7:00 pm.
Boise State University Hall of Fame guard Roberto Bergersen was an integral member of the Idaho Stampede's Championship season last year. In 47 games Bergersen averaged 13.1 points, 2.8 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game.
Bergersen rejoins the Stampede after playing overseas in Turkey during the beginning of the season. The Boise State Hall of Famer averaged 22.2 points per game in his senior season. He was also named Big West Conference Player of the Year and ranked 11th nationally in scoring that season.
Originally drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in the 1999 NBA Draft, Bergersen was then traded to the Portland Trail Blazers but released before the start of the season. He was signed by the Idaho Stampede in the fall of 1999. The 6'6" 202 lbs. guard averaged 7.7 points per game and was named MVP of the Rookie Game during the CBA All-Star festivities.
After several seasons playing overseas, Bergersen rejoined Idaho for the 2003-04 season, helping to build one of the franchises best seasons with a 34-14 record, including 12-3 at home. He averaged 16.0 points per game in 48 games, finishing 4th in the league in three-point field goal percentage at 44.1%. He was also named the all-star game MVP that year.
To make room for Bergersen on the roster, the Stampede waive Tierre Brown who was recently acquired for Ernest Scott from the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
