Energy's Tolliver Signed by New Orleans

NEW YORK, Jan. 21, 2009 - The New Orleans Hornets today signed Iowa Energy forward Anthony Tolliver, making him the fifth GATORADE Call-Up of the 2008-09 NBA Development League season and 2nd of the week from the Central Division leading Iowa Energy.

Tolliver, 6-9, spent most of the 2008-2009 season with the San Antonio Spurs before being waived on January 7th. During his time with the Spurs, Tolliver averaged 2.7 points and 2.2 rebounds per game in 19 games. Tolliver appeared in three games with the Energy this year, averaging 10.7 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Last season, Tolliver played in 24 games with the Energy, averaging 11.5 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.

Undrafted out of Creighton University in 2007, Tolliver spent the 2007 preseason with the Cleveland Cavaliers. After being cut on opening night, Tolliver joined the Energy for their inaugural season.

Tolliver is expected to join the Hornets tonight when the team faces the New Jersey Nets in New Orleans.

The NBA Development League, founded in 2001, is the NBA's official minor league and features 16 teams with direct affiliations to NBA teams. The league has produced 15 percent of the players on 2007-08 end-of-season NBA rosters and continues to develop current NBA coaches and referees. In fostering the league's connection to the community, its teams, players and staff promote youth basketball, support local needs and interests, and assist in educational development through NBA D-League Cares programs.
