Arkansas Travelers News Release
Springfield, MO-The Arkansas Travelers finished off their roadtrip with a come from behind 8-7 win over the Springfield Cardinals on Monday afternoon on the strength of a five run seventh inning. Trailing by three runs entering the pivotal seventh inning, Arkansas hitters showed patience against the Cardinal bullpen as the first three hitters drew walks. After Springfield brought in another reliever Marcus Littlewood doubled home a pair of runs to cut the margin to one. After a walk to Chantz Mack, Joey Wong drew a free pass to force in the tying run. Jay Baum then delivered the go-ahead hit before Nelson Ward singled to bring in another and cap the five run frame. The Travelers bullpen was able to close out the victory despite threats from the Cardinals. Springfield answered with a run in the bottom of the seventh but Peter Tago got the final two outs of the inning with the bases loaded. Tago and Zac Curtis then combined to pitch the final two frams scoreless. Springfield built their lead by scoring two runs in each of the second, fourth and sixth innings. The Travs got on the board in the third inning when Marcus Littlewood blasted a three-run homer, his first of the season. Dylan Unsworth started for the Travs and lasted 4.2 innings while being charged with four runs on eight hits. Springfield starter Sandy Alcantara went six innings allowing three runs on six hits. Neither would factor in the decision. Blake Perry (1-1) got the win for the Travs picking up five outs. Blake McKnight (1-2) was charged with a blown save and the loss. Curtis earned his third save of the season. Littlewood paced the Trav offense with his 3-5 day including a homer, a double and five runs knocked in. Ian Miller also contributed a multi-hit effort going 2-4 with a double. The Travs return home to open a four-game homestand against the Tulsa Drillers Tuesday night. Right-hander Tyler Herb (0-1, 5.66) starts for Arkansas against righty Isaac Anderson (0-3, 7.47) for Tulsa. First pitch is set for 7:10 and it is AR 529 Baseball Bingo & Zoosday Tuesday at Dickey-Stephens Park. The game will also be broadcast on the Sports Animal 920, the First Pitch App, TuneIn radio and milb.tv. ---
