Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI - Dean Deetz allowed one run over five innings while improving to 3-0 as Corpus Christi sunk Frisco 6-2 Monday at Whataburger Field before 3,411.
Deetz, who yielded four hits, two walks, and struck out four, threw 76 pitches (47 strikes).
Scott Heineman's fourth home run - a 430-foot shot over the left-field berm on the night's fourth pitch - provided Frisco (12-12) with an early 1-0 lead.
Corpus Christi lead-off man Drew Ferguson reciprocated against James Dykstra (0-1) with his third homer on a ball that flew out of the park the same direction. Trent Woodward's booming double to right-center plated Ramon Laureano (single/stolen base) later in the first.
Frisco missed a golden opportunity to tie during the fifth. Michael De Leon doubled to left, but was stranded 90 feet from home on Jose Cardona's bounce out to second baseman Mott Hyde and Deetz's 96-mph strikeout of Luke Tendler.
The Hooks (15-9) erupted for four runs on three hits off relievers Adam Loewen and Clayton Cook in the sixth. Bryan Muniz extended his hitting streak to six games with a two-run double and Ferguson had a two-run single. Loewen struck Woodward with a pitch and Cook issued walks to Hyde and Antonio Nunez . Woodward and Hyde ultimately scored.
Corpus Christi relievers Michael Freeman and Riley Ferrell benefited from double plays in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings.
Hooks third baseman J.D. Davis owns a seven-game hitting streak.
The Hooks hit the road for four games in Midland, returning to Whataburger Field Saturday for eight vs. San Antonio and the RockHounds May 6-14.
