Roadrunners Fall Short against Colts

SAN ANGELO, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners' late comeback fell short by a run as they lost 5-4 to the San Angelo Colts Saturday night at Foster Field.

Trailing by two in the bottom of the ninth, Pascual Del Real hit a solo homerun, his first of the season, to get the Roadrunners within one but Eric Draxton shut the door recording the final two outs of the game.

San Angelo (35-33) grabbed the first lead of the game in the bottom of the second. A wild pitch allowed Landon Camp to score from third making it 1-0.

In the top of the fourth, Carlos Hereaud hit his fifth homerun of the season tying the game at one.

After a wild pitch allowed the Colts to regain the lead in the bottom of the fourth, the Roadrunners (41-27) got an RBI single from Wilmer Pino in the top of the fifth that scored Vincent Blue tying the game at two.

Cory Patton gave San Angelo the lead once again with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth that scored Daryl Jones making it 3-2.

Edinburg tied the game yet again. In the top of the sixth, Derek Perren reached on a one-out double and then came in to score on an RBI single by Felix Molina that tied things at three.

The Colts got solo homeruns from Jones in the bottom of the seventh and Ronnie Gaines in the bottom of the eighth giving them the 5-3 lead.

Draxton picked up his 17th save of the season giving San Angelo the 5-4 victory.

Dave Dinelli (3-8) took the loss pitching a complete game while allowing five runs with nine strikeouts While Michael Hart (5-1) picked up the win for the Colts.

The Roadrunners begin a four-game series with the Fort Worth Cats Sunday night at LaGrave Field with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
