
RoadRunners Edge Wranglers 7-6 In A Shootout- Calgary Assigns Kevin Lalande and Gord Baldwin

Phoenix, AZ - The Las Vegas Wranglers (5-6-2, 12 points) were defeated by the Phoenix RoadRunners (7-5-2, 16 points) 7-6 in a shootout at the U.S. Airways Center on Tuesday night. Phoenix captain Mitch Carefoot scored with 19-seconds remaining to tie the game 6-6 and force overtime and a shootout. The RoadRunners scored on three of five attempts in the shootout for the win. Despite a hat trick and an assist from center Chris Neiszner, the Wranglers drop to 0-5-2 on the road this season. Wranglers' Left wing Shawn Limpright scored a goal and added two assists for his first three-point night of the season. Tyler Mosienko and Justin Taylor also scored in the shootout defeat. Phoenix rookie Ashton Rome tallied a hat trick for the RoadRunners. Las Vegas will play in Utah on Friday night at 6:05 pm (PST).
The Roadrunners scored the fastest goal in their team history with Ashton Rome scoring just ten seconds into the game for the 1-0 Phoenix lead. Las Vegas countered to tie the game just 2:27 later. Forward Justin Taylor scored his third goal of the season off a rebound, tying the game 1-1 at 2:37. Matt Fornataro lifted the RoadRunners back into the lead at 3:55 with his fifth goal of the season and a 2-1 Phoenix lead. Las Vegas tied the game 2-2 before the end of the period. Center Tyler Mosienko scored his third goal of the season off a rebound with 2:21 left in the period. Las Vegas outshot Phoenix 17-9 in the opening period.
The two teams traded goals in the second period, starting with Las Vegas taking a 3-2 lead at 7:56. Center Chris Neiszner poked in a rebound for his fourth goal of the season. Phoenix countered to tie the game 3-3 at 13:08. Captain Mitch Carefoot scored his fourth goal of the season off a loose-puck scramble in the Wranglers crease.
In the third period, Phoenix jumped back out in front at 2:45 when Ashton Rome beat Brent Krahn for his second goal of the night, giving the RoadRunners a 4-3 lead. Las Vegas countered to tie the game as Shawn Limpright scored his first goal of the season at 8:37, forcing a 4-4 tie. At 13:17, Chris Neiszner scored his second goal of the night to give Las Vegas a 5-4 lead. At 17:18, Neiszner capped off his hat trick to give the Wranglers a two-goal lead. Ashton Rome finalized his hat trick at 18:14 to bring the RoadRunners within a goal at 6-5. Phoenix's Mitch Carefoot tallied his second goal of the night to tie the game with 19-seconds remaining in regulation.
After a scoreless overtime, the two teams went to a shootout to decide the extra point. Phoenix scored on three of five chances, while Las Vegas scored once in four chances. The RoadRunners won the shootout 3-1 and the game 7-6.
Prior to the game, the Wranglers added defenseman Gord Baldwin, who was assigned by the NHL's Calgary Flames. Baldwin played in 12 games with Las Vegas last season, recording an assist and nine penalty minutes. Goalie Kevin Lalande has also been assigned to the team by Calgary. Lalande led Las Vegas all the way to the Kelly Cup Finals last June. The second-year goalie posted a 17-5-4 record with the Wranglers last season. He also set a team high with a 2.05 goals against average and a.932 save percentage.
