RoadRunners Sign Center Merit Waldrop

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the San Jose Sharks and the Worcester Sharks, announced today the signing of rookie center Merit Waldrop. Waldrop is expected to be in the line-up this evening when the RoadRunners host the Las Vegas Wranglers at 7:05 p.m.

Waldrop, 25, collected six goals and 12 points in 36 games last season as a senior at the University of Alaska-Anchorage. The Anchorage native totaled 23 goals, 30 assists, and 53 points in 138 games over four years with the Seawolves. Waldrop enjoyed his best scoring season in 2006-07 when he registered 14 assists and a career-high 19 points in 35 games. He ended his collegiate career eighth all-time at Alaska-Anchorage in games played.

Waldrop attended training camp with the Alaska Aces in October.

In addition to the signing of Waldrop, the RoadRunners have placed defenseman Rob Dmytruk on waivers. Dmytruk tallied two goals and four points in 12 games with Phoenix.

In a separate transaction, the RoadRunners have activated defenseman Rory Rawlyk from the 30-day injured reserve, and placed rookie forward Wes Clark on the three-day injured reserve.

Phoenix returns to US Airways Center for a three-game home-stand at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday when they welcome the Las Vegas Wranglers.
