Asheville Tourists News Release

Kannapolis, NC-- The Asheville Tourists extended their season long road winning streak to ten on Friday night with an 11-1 blowout victory over the Kannapolis Intimidators. Asheville scored at least one run in eight of the nine innings and Alex Balog pitched a gem to earn his seventh win of the year.

Asheville plated one in the top of the first when Correlle Prime drove in David Dahl with a groundout. In the bottom of the first, Christian Stringer made it 1-1 with a solo Home Run to right field. Stringer's long ball was Balog's only blemish. The Tourists right-hander went seven innings, scattered three additional singles, and recorded a season-high nine strikeouts.

Dahl made it 3-1 with a two-run RBI single in the second. The Tourists added one more in the fourth when Ashley Graeter scored Michael Benjamin on a sacrifice fly. In the fifth, Emerson Jimenez and Dahl led off with back-to-back doubles and David later scored on an RBI single by Raimel Tapia. The Tourists were far from done.

In the sixth, Jimenez plated Wilfredo Rodriguez with a single to right and Max White later crossed the plate on a wild pitch. Asheville made it 9-1 with a run in the seventh. Rodriguez hit a sacrifice fly to score Tapia.

In the eighth, Benjamin drove in Dahl from third base with a two-out single to left and for good measure; Jimenez scored White on a sac fly in the ninth.

Balog, Dylan Stamey, and Jefri Hernandez combined to record 13 strikeouts and only allowed six hits; Stinger's Home Run and five singles. Dahl finished 4-for-6 with three runs scored and three RBI while Jimenez ended up 3-for-4 with two runs and a pair of RBI. Asheville swiped four bases in the win and also picked Kannapolis' Adam Engel off of first base on two separate occasions.

The Tourists and the Intimidators take the field for game three of this four game series on Saturday night. The first pitch is set for 7:05pm.
