Macon Mayhem News Release

Ho hum, another road game, another record setting performance by Macon Mayhem goaltender Garrett Bartus.

For the second straight road game, Bartus topped the 50 save mark, and the Mayhem won its second straight road game by the score of 5-1, beating the Pensacola Ice Flyers in Pensacola Saturday night. Bartus stopped 52 shots as Pensacola had a 53-23 edge in shots on goal.

Last Friday, Bartus stopped 50 shots which was a team record at that time, eclipsed Saturday night. The five goals is also a team record, also first reached last Friday in a 5-1 win at Columbus.

While Bartus was doing his thing, five of his teammates scored goals. Joshua Ranalli, Stephen Pierog, and Anton Lennartsson gave Bartus more than enough goal support, with first period scores.

Shawn Skelly had the only goal of the second period. He had also assisted on Ranalli's goal, giving him the league's scoring lead. Skelly now has 13 goals and 20 assists for 33 points. He moved past Corey Banfield of Pensacola who has 32 points.

Pensacola's Joe Caveney was the only Ice Flyer able to solve Bartus, with a goal at 7:21 of the third period. that gave the home team the long shot chance of pulling its goaltender to attempt an improbable comeback. Jake Trask made sure it was an impossible comeback attempt, scoring into the empty net with 3:34 left.

The Mayhem and Ice Flyers play again Sunday in Pensacola at 5:05 p.m. Eastern time.
