SOUTHAVEN, Miss. - The Mississippi RiverKings (15-8-6) erased a late one-goal deficit, but Jeremy Boyer and Geordie Wudrick each scored in the shootout to give the Louisiana IceGators (12-14-3) the 4-3 victory on Concorde Career College Ice at Landers Center on Saturday night.
The RiverKings got on the board first in the second period. Charlie Mosey buried home a rebound past Brad Barone 5:03 into the middle frame to put the RiverKings on top 1-0.
Louisiana then scored twice to take their first lead of the game. Jake Hauswirth ripped a wrist shot through traffic at the 8:37 mark before Geordie Wudrick stole the puck in the RiverKings zone and beat Peter Di Salvo for a shorthanded goal to give the IceGators a 2-1 lead with under a minute to play in the second.
But the RiverKings battled back. Linden Bahm took a pass from Mike Grace and one-timed it past Barone 23 seconds later to tie the game at two heading into the third.
Early in the third, Louisiana regained the lead. Hauswirth tallied his second of the game as he took a pass from Alex Hudson on an odd-man rush and beat Di Salvo between the legs to make it 3-2 Louisiana.
Late in the third, the RiverKings tied it once again. Ryan Marcuz followed his own shot and put the rebound past Barone to send the game to overtime.
After a scoreless overtime, the game went to a shootout. Brad Barone stopped all four RiverKings shooters while Jeremy Boyer and Geordie Wudrick each scored for Louisiana to give the IceGators a 4-3 victory.
Peter Di Salvo (9-3-2) stopped 40 of 43 shots against in the shootout loss. Brad Barone (5-5-1) stopped 34 of 37 shots against in the win.
The RiverKings scored twice on seven power play opportunities, while Louisiana was scoreless on three chances.
Prior to the game, the RiverKings honored Equipment Manager Jim Chesnut as Chesnut celebrated his 1,000th game worked in professional hockey. The team presented Chesnut with his own number "1000" jersey in honor of his service in hockey.
