Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Greenville, SC: The Road Warriors knocked off the Florida Everblades in shootouts on Saturday with a 2-1 win.
The game remained scoreless through the first period with Florida outshooting the Road Warriors 9-6. Marc-Olivier Vallerand was awarded a penalty shot after being hooked on a breakaway. Connor Knapp denied the attempt 5:39 into the game. Florida drew a power play during the frame but could not beat Jason Missiaen.
Greenville jump-started the period with several scoring chances and were given a power play early in the frame. Brad Cole broke the scoreless tie 8:23 into the second period with a backhand goal on the man advantage. The defenseman found a loose puck in the slot after a scramble for the puck. Kyle Jean and Andrew Rowe assisted on the goal. The remainder of the period was scoreless as Greenville took a 1-0 lead into the third. The Road Warriors outshot Florida 10-8 in the period.
The Everblades tied the game with 12:15 on the clock in the third period. Kyle Bonis was open in the slot to score his 18th of the year on passes from Trevor Bruess and Brandon MacLean. The goal forced overtime and a shootout to decide the stale mate. During the third period, Florida roared back outshooting Greenville 14-10. Missiaen stopped five of six during the shootout, including two while the game was on the line. Michael St. Croix scored to continue the shootout to the sixth round where Jean potted the game winner. Missaen, the game's second star, saved 32 shots to improve to a 5-2-1 record. Knapp made 27 saves in the loss but was the game's third star. Jean was awarded the first star of the game.
