Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces, proud affiliate of the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League, has signed veteran center Tyler Mosienko (Moh-see-EN-koh), head coach Rob Murray announced today.
Mosienko, 29, is a forward with 300 games of ECHL experience with Las Vegas and Greenville. He will wear #24 and is expected to make his Aces debut tonight against the host Ontario Reign at Citizens Business Bank Arena, beginning at 5:00 p.m. (KFQD).
"Tyler is a welcomed addition to Alaska with tremendous skill, grit and leadership qualities," said Murray. "Those qualities, combined with a reputation of never taking a shift off and getting under the opponent's skin are significant upgrades we have been seeking for an extended period of time. We're confident those attributes will be extremely valuable for us during the stretch run and upcoming postseason."
Currently in his ninth season as a pro, Mosienko has collected 253 points (86g-167a), 408 penalty minutes and a +61 rating in 300 career ECHL games. The former Las Vegas captain helped guide the Wranglers to an appearance in the Kelly Cup Finals in 2008 when he earned a playoff career high 20 points in 21 games.
He returns from a stint of two seasons-plus spent in Asia and Denmark, most recently with Esbjerg where he posted 43 points (16g-27a) in 31 games this season. The ECHL's scheduled deadline was 11:00 a.m. AKT today for its teams to sign players from other teams based outside North America.
The 5-foot-8, 175-pound forward was named to two ECHL All-Star teams in 2006 (Greenville) and 2007 (Las Vegas). His most recent ECHL experience came in 2010-11, finishing over a point-per-game average in Las Vegas with 47 points (15g-32a) in 43 games while adding three points in five playoff games.
The native of West St, Paul, Manitoba has also skated in 53 career American Hockey League games with Bridgeport, Manchester, Rockford and San Antonio and has earned 20 points (8g-12a) and 12 penalty minutes.
Mosienko also racked up 232 points in 338 career junior games with Kelowna of the Western Hockey League and helped guide the Rockets to two appearances in the Memorial Cup.
Tyler's grandfather, Bill, was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1965 after 14 playing seasons in the NHL with the Chicago Blackhawks and set the league's record for fastest three goals in a game (21 seconds).
