Kingston-At a press conference this morning, and with the help of Team Canada Alumni and Toronto Maple Leaf great Wendel Clark, Kingston was announced as the host city for three IIHF World Junior Pre-Tournament Exhibition Games this December, part of the RBC Road to the World Juniors. The games, which will be played at Rogers K-Rock Centre, will feature the teams from Russia, Denmark, Sweden, USA, and Czech Republic who will all be competing in the IIHF World Junior Championship in Toronto and Montreal. The Kingston Frontenacs have worked with Hockey Canada to offer a first in the World Junior Exhibition Pre-Tournament: a midday game for students. The Russia vs. Denmark game on Tuesday, December 20 will be played at 12noon at Rogers K-Rock Centre and Kingston Frontenacs Business Operations are working with the local schools to fill Rogers K-Rock Centre with students and make the game a learning experience. "This will be a once-in-a-lifetime chance for these students to see a game with the world's best junior hockey players," said Chenier. "Our capacity is just over 5,000 and with an elementary student population in Kingston well beyond that, we expect the demand to be high."

"A tremendous amount of work and planning goes into bringing an international event such as the IIHF World Junior Championship to Canada. But whether it's World Juniors or one of our national events, Hockey Canada works closely with our partners such as RBC, the host-communities, and our provincial Members to ensure we are positively impacting the greatest number of people we can," said Tom Renney, President and CEO, Hockey Canada. "These players provide inspiration to Canadians to take up the game; to work with RBC to bring this level of competition and the ensuing development programs to so many communities across Ontario and Quebec allows us to showcase these young stars of the game, while building on our nation's passion for hockey."

Eight cities across Ontario and Quebec will play host to international teams, featuring 10 games from December 19 through 23, before the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship officially begins on Boxing Day, December 26 in Montreal and Toronto.

Tickets for the Sweden vs. Russia and Czech Republic evening games are on-sale now at Rogers K-Rock Centre Box Office, with tickets starting at $15.50 per game in the two-game packs. Tickets for the school game are being coordinated through the school boards to principals and teachers.
