Calgary Hitmen News Release
Saskatoon, SK - The Calgary Hitmen snapped a three-game losing streak with a 4-3 victory over the Saskatoon Blades on Wednesday night at SaskTel Centre.
The result kept alive an oddity between the two clubs which has now seen the road team win each of their last eight meetings.
Tied 2-2 through 40 minutes, the Hitmen grabbed a 4-2 lead less than nine minutes into the final frame on markers from Carson Focht and Dakota Krebs. Mark Kastelic and Cael Zimmerman also scored for the Hitmen with Kastelic extending his career-high point scoring streak to 12 games. Riley Stotts grabbed a pair of assists to run his streak to nine games.
Jayden Wiens, Caiden Daley and Martin Fasko-Rudas replied for Saskatoon.
The Hitmen, now 1-1 on their three-game road trip, outshot the Blades 33-32. Rookie goaltender Brayden Peters made 29 saves to record the win while Nolan Maier also turned aside 29 shots for Saskatoon.
The victory moves Calgary eight points up on the Blades for the first Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference with just over two weeks remaining in the regular season.
The Hitmen will now get set to wrap up their roadie on Friday, March 6 in Medicine Hat against the Tigers.
Calgary is then back at home the following night, Saturday, March 7 when 2018 New Jersey Devils first-round pick and two-time Team Canada World Junior defenceman Ty Smith and the Spokane Chiefs make their first and only visit of the season.
Game time is 7:00 p.m. for Multicultural Night at Scotiabank Saddledome.
