Saskatoon Blades News Release
Saskatoon, SK - The Saskatoon Blades dropped a 4-2 affair on Wednesday night at the Sasktel Centre.
Caiden Daley had a goal and an assists for the Blades while Jayden Wiens scored for the 7th time this season.
Wiens opened the scoring for the Blades with some good work in front of the net. Nolan Kneen got the puck at the point and shot and it was Wiens who cleaned up in front to give the Blades an early lead, Daley picked up the other assist. Calgary would reply a few minutes later and tie the game on a goal in front. That is how the first period would end as the score was tied 1-1 and the Calgary had a narrow shot advantage at 13-12.
The Blades opened the second period on the powerplay but were unable to convert. Nolan Maier made a strong save around the 13 minute mark of the frame as the puck bounced to a Hitmen player in the slot but Maier got a pad on it. Calgary would open the scoring on the powerplay with just over 3 minutes to go in the frame. Kyle Crnkovic would look to reply on a partial breakaway after using his speed but was unable to convert. Daley would tie the game for the Blades on a set play off the faceoff as Tristan Robins won the draw back to Radek Kucerik and he lifted it down the ice for Daley who flew by the Hitmen defender and took the puck to his backhand for his 7th of the season which tied the game.
Calgary would break the tie 5:52 into the third period on a nice individual rush. The Hitmen would add to their lead a few minutes later with a Blades defender tied up behind the net. The puck would bounce out to a Hitmen defensemen at the point as he made it 4-2. Saskatoon would get life as Martin Fasko-Rudas was able to poke the puck in the net with 1:12 to go and make it 4-3. But that is how this game would end as the Blades were unable to get the tying goal.
Saskatoon is back in action on Friday night as the Blades host the Regina Pats.
